Daily Brushing & Flossing
Bacteria in your mouth feed on starchy and sugary foods and produce an acid film called plaque. Plaque causes inflammation in your gums and causes gum disease. Plaque also attacks the enamel on your teeth and causes cavities.
Gum disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults over age 30.
Gums disease is usually painless until it becomes very serious. As the gum disease worsens, it spreads to the underlying jawbone, eroding away the support for the teeth. If the disease is allowed to continue, the teeth will loosen and eventually be lost.
Proper daily brushing and flossing are essential to preventing gum disease and cavities. Our dental hygienists will give you thorough instructions in brushing and flossing your teeth at your first dental cleaning appointment.
